Peterborough/Ottawa 16 Sept. 2021
So by now you know we like to cycle.
Peterborough has a great trail/rail trail system and today we cycled to Lakefield for lunch at the Nutty Bean Café…a great place for lunch. We returned on the same trail which is fairly flat with a very low grade approx. 36 km round trip. This is the furthest in one day for us this year. We used to ride as much as 80km and I have rode (ridden?) as much as 166km (100 Miles called a “century”) but that was BC (Before Covid) and BHBABTBRC (Before Hearts/Before Ankle Breaking Tandem riding/Before Rotator Cuff surgery) If you don’t know us, let’s just say we have had some setbacks but still enjoying the ride as much as possible.
Elizabeth received a new bike this May. It was a year in the making but well worth it.
So this year I am riding to raise funds for a good cause (not by myself as Elizabeth has been riding with me):
Between Sunday, September 12 and Saturday, September 18, 2021 I will be participating in Pedal for Portage, a virtual event where I can walk, run or cycle in support of Portage Ontario, an organization whose work I strongly believe in. Your donation, of any amount, will help the Portage Centre in Elora to support a young person overcome their substance dependency.
Thanks to those who have already donated and if anyone else is interested, click here or copy and paste this in your browser:

The support I have received has been mind blowing and I have increased my $ goal twice!
We bought tickets to the Canadian Canoe Museum and I highly recommend that if your are in the area you try to see it. It boasts the worlds largest collection of canoes and kayaks, over 600, the majority of which are in storage in another building.
The displays of the ancient canoes and kayaks were excellent and there were many video displays of traditional building and related history. They have many workshops available but on hold due to Covid. They are starting to build a new center along the water and will be moving all the displays in the next year.
I used to subscribe to the magazine “Kanawa” which was the Canadian canoeing magazine for canoes/kayaks and always wanted to see this museum. We went for two hours and you could likely spend three times that if you wanted to read all the related articles and watch all the videos. An amazing collection and documentation of Canadian History in transportation/exploration.

Wednesday 15. Yesterday we travelled to Manotick, just outside of Ottawa where we will stay for 2 weeks in a camp that we have been to before. There is a rail trail across the road that’s fun and there are a lot of options for riding in Ottawa…including a stop and shop at MEC!
We went to the Van Gogh multi-media show Wednesday afternoon and it was an amazing multimedia show. It took just over an hour and the last room was a 35 minute loop. We really enjoyed it and attached some pics. Thursday is the last day so we are lucky to catch it.
All for now…keep you posted.
